PUPPIES & DOGS
PUPPIES -
DOG VACCINE PROTOCOLS (CORE)
- Start DHPP vaccine at 8 weeks in a puppy with known maternal vaccine status. 
- Repeat DHPP vaccine every 3-4 weeks until 18-20 weeks of age. Good for 1 year.* 
- Puppies with poor nursing history or unknown history may need to start earlier. 
- Bordetella - Oral or injectable vaccine given at 12 weeks. Repeating every 6 months in the SD area is recommended though the vaccine is labeled for 1 year. 
- Leptospirosis vaccine- given first at 14-16 weeks of age with a booster at 18-20 weeks. Annual booster thereafter. CORE IN SD County since 2015.* 
- Rabies vaccine is given at the final vaccines visit at 18-20 weeks of age. Good for 1 year. 
ADULT DOGS - UNKNOWN HISTORY
DOG VACCINE PROTOCOLS (CORE)
DHPP given as a series of 2. Given at first visit and then repeated with a booster in 3-4 weeks.
- Good for 1 year. 
- Bordetella is recommended every 6 months but is compulsory annually. 
- Leptospirosis vaccine- Given at first visit and then repeated with a booster 3-4 weeks later. 
- Good for 1 year. Boostered annually. 
- Rabies vaccine is given then repeated in 1 year, then every 3 years thereafter. 
ADULT DOGS - KNOWN PUPPY VACCINE HISTORY

- DHPP is repeated annually until year 4. Thereafter every 3 years. 
- Bordetella is recommended every 6 months but is compulsory annually. 
- Leptospirosis is given annually. 
- Rabies is given at 1 year, then repeated every 3 years. 
ADULT DOGS - TITERS FOR DISTEMPER AND PARVO
DOG VACCINE PROTOCOLS (CORE)
- Can be run to assess immunization levels after 4 years of age. If the titer is high enough, vaccination can be skipped. 
- There are not titers considered accurate for leptospirosis/bordetella and they are not allowed to be used by County Law for rabies determination. 
Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital requires current rabies vaccines for all pets being seen at our hospital.
